There may not be a procession this year, but organisers of the Welshpool Carnival tomorrow (Saturday) are confident that the day out will be the “best yet”.
Dozens of stalls and an afternoon of family and sports-themed entertainment will ensure there is plenty for carnival-goers of all ages with the Mayor confident that it will hit the spot.
Speaking this week at the Full Council meeting, Cllr Bill Rowell said: “It really is the best carnival we have had planned and we need everyone to support it. Even if there is no procession.”
Bottles of water will be available at the information point although the weather expected to be somewhat cooler.
The event will take place at the Maesydre Recreation Ground, from 12.50pm to 6pm, with the grounds coming alive with a wide variety of attractions, performances, and local showcases.
The afternoon will feature a fantastic selection of food vendors and craft stalls, alongside live entertainment from the Batala Bermo high-energy samba-reggae band, vintage strongman display and birds of prey display.
Food vendors include local and regional traders offering everything from gourmet burgers, hot dogs and barbecue favourites to freshly made crêpes, doughnuts, waffles, cakes, ice cream, milkshakes, speciality coffees, Southeast Asian street food and Caribbean-inspired dishes.
With a strong sports theme, organisers are encouraging everyone to get involved, whether by dressing up, taking part in activities, or simply enjoying the atmosphere.
Following lower than expected interest, the parade element will not take place through the streets of Welshpool this year however the heart of the Carnival remains firmly intact. The focus for 2026 is on bringing the whole community together in one place for a lively, welcoming celebration filled with colour, entertainment, and fun.
