Tesco makes “difficult decision” to scrap car boots

Tesco said they have made the “difficult decision” to end their popular car boot sales in Welshpool after carrying out a review.

The supermarket giant has been hosting car boot sales on its huge car park since it first opened way back in March 2011, with charities benefiting from selling goods to the large crowd of shoppers that have attended over the years.

But following a social media post over the weekend saying they were no more, Tesco have confirmed to us this morning that they “apologise for the inconvenience caused”.

In information shared with us, they said that all third parties using their sites are required to have the appropriate insurance, risk assessments and safety measures in place to ensure the safety of everyone at the event.

They also explained that car parking space was a factor in their decision and after carrying out a review and listening to customer feedback, they have decided to cancel future car boots.

The post over the weekend online stated that anyone who has already booked and paid for August and September car boots can can visit the customer service desk in store to receive a full refund. Any money that isn't collected, will be given to Tesco charities.
