Dan set to launch local Games interest today!

The Commonwealth Games are under way in Glasgow and the Welshpool area’s interest will be focussed on the swimming pool today with Dan Jones expected to compete.

The 29-year-old is set to be rested for the 4x100 freestyle heats in this morning’s qualifying session (12.35pm) to be fresh and ready for tonight’s final which is scheduled for 9.21pm.

Dan finished the last Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with four fourth place finishes so will be eager to finally get his hands on a medal today.

He is joined in Team Wales by two fellow former Welshpool High School pupils, including Adele Nicoll, who competes in the shotput qualifiers on July 28 and then hopefully the final on the evening of July 29.

Joshua Whitehouse, 24, completes the trio after being selected in the 114-athlete squad to compete in Judo following some fantastic results.

Whitehouse, from Llanymynech, is the current British champion for the heavyweight +100kg category and will compete on the final day of competition on August 2 from 10am.
