Householders in the Welshpool area who have requested food waste liners will have them delivered within the next week, the county council has confirmed.
Powys County Council has experienced an issue with its stock of food waste liners, which has meant that householders in some areas have not received replacement rolls.
A new stock of food waste liners has now arrived and the council will be delivering them to householders who have requested them this week.
To ensure that that stock levels are maintained, bags will only be available from the crews through the yellow tag system and will no longer be available for collection from libraries or customer service points.
Cllr Phyl Davies, Cabinet Member for Waste and Recycling, said: “We appreciate that our libraries and customer service points have been a convenient method for householders to collect food waste liners but distributing them in this way has made it very difficult to keep control of our stock.
“There is a significant cost to purchasing food waste liners and it essential that we keep control of what we buy, not only to minimise our costs but to ensure that our food waste collection scheme can run as smoothly as possible.
“We would also ask residents to use these sacks for food recycling only.”
Each roll of food waste liners has a yellow ‘request more liners’ tag inserted 10 sacks before the end of the roll. Residents should attach this to their food waste caddy when they put it out on their collection day and a new roll will be provided by the waste and recycling crews.
If there is no tag within the roll, residents can contact the council for more liners by visiting www.powys.gov.uk/recycle and clicking on the ‘Get bin, bag or box’ icon or by calling 01597 827465 / 0845 6027035.
