Fireworks display deficit narrows

Welshpool’s annual free fireworks display cost the town £4,500 this year, but almost half of that was recouped through donations on the night.

Despite rain showers, the display at Maesydre to mark ‘bonfire night’ attracted up to 3,000 spectators for the 30-minute show.

There is no admission fee, with the Town Council keen to make the event a community get together accessible to all, but just under £2,000 was raised through donations on the gate.

“It was by far the most we have raised,” said a spokesperson. “Normally we get up to £1,000 in donations so we are delighted to have recouped so much this year.”
