Dramatic Sunday evening Welshpool rescue

Talk about a team effort!

There was a dramatic rescue on the outskirts of Welshpool on Sunday evening when a specialist team from Welshpool Fire Station joined mountain rescuers, local police and members of the Welshpool-based Air Ambulance to save a man who had fallen down an embankment.

The incident happened as darkness set in around tea time near Trelydan when the man, suffering from a nasty broken leg, was stuck in a hard-to-reach location at the bottom of the steep embankment.

But thanks to the expertise of the local emergency services, the man was rescued and taken to hospital.

The medical team from the airport arrived by response car and the man was eventually taken to hospital by a local ambulance crew.

“The male was treated at the scene for a broken leg, cuts and bruising before being taken to hospital via road ambulance,” a spokesperson told us. “Fire crews assisted ambulance and mountain rescue in safely moving the casualty from the bottom of the embankment and into the ambulance before been taken to hospital for further treatment.”
