Pair rescued from car trapped in floods

Welshpool firefighters have been called upon again tonight to rescue two people from a car that had become trapped in rising flood waters.

The incident, just off the A483 near Pool Quay, happened at around 6.20pm when the car, being driven by a female who had a young girl as passenger, was caught in flood waters and swept off the road.

The situation was becoming ever more precarious by the minute but the rapid response of the station’s Swift Water Rescue Team prevented a disaster.

“On arrival, the firefighters found a woman and a young girl in a car which had left the road, firemen used a rescue sled and wading poles to rescue the two and escort them to safety before towing the car out of flood water,” said a station spokesperson.

Neither needed hospital treatment, but it has prompted the service to reiterate its appeal that we carried this morning about trying to drive through flooded roads.

“It’s just not worth the risk,” the spokesperson said.
