Pay council tax over 12 months

With a 5% increase set to come into play from April, Powys County Council is softening the blow by advising householders to pay over 12 months instead.

In a press release, the council said that all council bills have a variety of payment options that can be used to help residents spread the cost of the annual bill, including extending from the usual 10 months of payment.

“All council tax bills include information about the facility to pay yearly, half yearly or by 10 or 12 monthly instalments, residents are also given an option to have the direct debit paid from their accounts on a date to suit them,” said Councillor Joy Jones, the council’s Anti-Poverty Champion.

“With many residents under severe financial pressure the ability to spread the cost of their council tax is very important. Having 12 payments instead of 10 will make it easier for some residents to cope.

“Information about payment options is included with the bill and information can also be found on the county council’s website under information for paying your council tax. The facility has been available since 2013 and I encourage residents to make use of the 12-month option,” she added.
