Local residents have been roped into a scam which has involved cold calls purporting to be from the HMRC.
At least five calls have been logged with police from the same scam where a message is left on an answer machine saying they are from the HMRC and threaten high legal fees if their call is not returned to a number beginning with 28.
“We would urge people not to reply to these messages, or to hang up immediately if you are on the line,” said a spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police.
“Reports of any further calls can be made to Action Fraud online at www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040, or by calling Dyfed-Powys Police on 101.
“We would encourgae people to pass this message on to any elderly or vulnerable friends or relatives who they fear might fall victim to scam callers.”
