It's a "no" to artificial flowers

Welshpool Town Council is to reconsider plans to replace flowers in the town’s hanging baskets with synthetic alternatives.

They currently spend £900 on flowers and plants annually, but it can take a member of staff up to 90 minutes to water them all, clocking up more than £2,500-worth of staff time every year.

The council services committee recommended replacing them with high quality synthetic and weather-proof displays which could continue from the Town Hall and down the Main Street and Puzzle Square.

But a meeting of the full council last night asked the committee to reconsider the proposal after councillors voiced concerns with Malcolm Douglass, David Senior, Heather Sherlock and Alison Davies all calling for the retention of the floral displays.
