A “terrible sight”

One of the worst cases of local fly tipping yet has been discovered at a beauty spot just off the Offa’s Dyke Path.

It was highlighted by local part time historian and keen photographer Colin Rogers who described it as a “terrible site” when he came across it this morning.

“It’s at the top of the road that goes up through Leighton to Trelystan,” he told us. “Offa's Dyke Path crosses the road and goes up a small lane for a couple of hundred yards. It’s a terrible sight.

“There is a hell of a lot of it, must have been more than one trip. The spot is well used by people who want to walk across a couple of fields to the Beacon Ring. The small turning area is well hidden from the Trelystan Road, so they could have done it at night.”

Among the items were children’s high chairs, dogs baskets and even two cream arm chairs.

Cases of fly tipping have increased across the area since the reduction in bin collections, but local authorities have been fighting back by trying to hunt down the perpetrators.

Some prosecutions have been made but incidents like this show we still have a long way to go.
