Major operation snares dangerous vehicles

Dyfed-Powys Police staged a major operation on Welshpool by-pass on Monday that snared a number of dangerous vehicles and loads.

The specialist roads policing unit, based in Newtown, teamed up with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency and HM Customs to carry out random checks throughout the day on the bypass.

And it appears to have been worthwhile with an alarming number of vehicles falling foul of the law.

“Numerous vehicles received immediate prohibitions not to move from the lay-by and a host of offences were found that could cause a danger to road users,” said a police spokesperson.

“We ran from 8am-12.30pm and then moved to Newtown for a few hours. The operation targeted all vehicles from cars to lorries. Offences included no insurance, no licence, bald tyres, security of loads, trailer offences with couplings and braking systems. Also no operators’ licenses on tractors, overweight car transporter vans just to mention a few.”
