There were calls made earlier this week for more to be done to clamp down on problems caused by anti-social drinkers at the town’s sports facilities, and the police have responded with a result.
Waterloo Rovers became the latest club to complain about broken beer bottles and other rubbish left at their grandstand, with the rugby, cricket and Welshpool Town clubs previously venting their frustration.
But last night, officers patrolled the trouble spots and caught a group of youths boozing.
A spokesperson said that "during patrols carried out in the Recreation Ground/Grandstand and Town Centre”, they caught “underage youths located at the Canalside enjoying a cold Bud”.
“Being spoil sports we confiscated and disposed of it (poured away),” the spokesperson said.
