Poor turnout for one-way business debate

With proposals to make major changes to the town’s one-way system on the table, Welshpool is being asked for its opinion over the next few weeks.

But it seems there is a certain amount of one-way fatigue spreading through the town following a poorly attended business forum on Monday night to debate the changes.

Only seven businesses were represented, out of an estimated 160 who were contacted by letter, but those present agreed to back the proposals that have been put forward.

“Not many businesses turned up bearing in mind that the Town Council delivered a letter to every retailer in town,” said Town Clerk, Robert Robinson. “The main subject was the one-way system review. The businesses present supported the changes to the system which have been published.”

However, it was a better day last Friday when an estimated 120 people attended an Open Day at the Town Hall to review the proposals.

The consultation will continue with the plans available to view at the Tourist Information Centre.
