Last year the Welshpool area was struck by a regular spate of robberies with vans targeted by thieves allegedly using some sort of a ‘smart key’, and there are fears that they have returned.
Readers have told us that at least one van was broken into on Erw Wen on Friday night when an expensive coat and tools were stolen.
It is feared that the same sort of ‘smart key’ used last year to gain access has once again been the modus operandi.
“I just want to alert people,” said one of our readers. “Please call the police if you saw anything.”
The police press office has not confirmed the incident to date but after previous thefts of a similar nature they advised tradesmen to take extra security measures and not to leave anything valuable in their vans overnight.
