New £2m block to be called Croft Court

14/08/2019 @ 03:35

Welshpool’s new £2 million housing block will be known as Croft Court, it has been revealed.

The development, behind the library, got the go ahead despite strong local opposition, with Mid-Wales Housing Association confirming that the 17 one and two-bedroom apartments will be available for rent by the end of the year.

It has been built over four floors, three of which will be fully wheelchair adapted. The apartments are designed to be the most energy efficient that Mid-Wales Housing has ever developed, with the aim of ensuring that the costs of heating and lighting will be kept to the absolute minimum.

This is being achieved by building to a “PassivHaus” standard and harnessing solar power for the additional benefit of all residents.

The Powys based development contractor, Mid-Wales Property Ltd, is committed to a local employment policy and is working to maintain a strong local supply chain, as a key part of the development programme.

The scheme has been developed with the assistance of £1.9 million funding from the Welsh Government’s Innovative Housing Programme, where the emphasis is on the development of innovative and highly energy efficient construction to reduce energy costs.

Sian Howells, Director of New Business at Mid-Wales Housing, said: “The Innovative Housing Programme is a very positive and welcome initiative by the Welsh Government. It allows more development of interesting and high quality homes in a shortened time frame, and here at Mid-Wales Housing we are keen to be at the forefront of new ideas and to provide more high quality affordable homes.”

Those who would like further information or to be considered for the new homes can contact the Allocations Officer at Mid-Wales Housing on 0300 111 3030 or email info@mid-walesha.co.uk
