‘We’re off the critical list’

Following months of uncertainty, Guilsfield Community Centre’s future appears to be secure but more support is still required.

A wrangle over past decisions resulted in a reluctance from the community to join the committee to run the village centre, placing its future in doubt.

It came within minutes of being closed down last December before an eleventh hour stay of execution when a well-supported emergency meeting resulted in a temporary committee being appointed.

That committee is taking a more permanent shape and on November 6 there will be an annual meeting at 7pm in the centre.

“There is still loads of work to do to get a new lease, new trust document, and so on but we are no longer on the critical list,” said a spokesperson.

“There are vacancies on the Trust for additional trustees. The current trustees would welcome any interested people from the associated clubs and organisations and from the Guilsfield Community in general.”
