Dyfed-Powys Police say they have credible intelligence that kids from Welshpool and Newtown are planning gang fights this weekend.

Parents are being urged to support the local force in preventing the clashes, which police say are expected to take place in both towns.

A spokesperson said: “We are aware that groups of teenagers from the Newtown and Welshpool areas are arranging to meet and fight in the towns over the coming weekend.

The spokesperson added that they are engaging with the schools and appealing to parents to "support us to stop this behaviour”.

Newtown Inspector, Matthew Price, added: “This information has come to us from a number of sources, and is really concerning to hear.

“The Neighbourhood Policing Team is working directly with the Pupil Referral Unit, and the school will be writing to the parents.

“We want to warn those involved that we know their plans, and violent behaviour won’t be tolerated. We will deal with any offences committed.”
