Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on

Monday 9^th May 2011.

A large entry of 91 OTM’s sold to a very good average of 126ppkg for 72 cows, 141ppkg for the 2 bulls, 135ppkg for the 13 under 48month old heifers and 136ppkg for the under 48month old steers. G Jones & Son Yr Ogof sold a Limousin cow weighing 893kg to a top price of £1402.01. G E Davies & Son Cwmbromley sold a Limousin cow to £1367.21. BJ & MY Davies Gorse Farm sold a Limousin bull weighing 952kg to £1456.56. G Jones & Son Yr Ogof receives the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest older cow sold on the day.

 

An entry of 16 fat cattle sold to average 165ppkg for the steers and 158ppkg for the heifers. CV & EM Lewis Garth Vaughan sold a Limousin steer weighing 605kg to a top market price of 177pkg. S Beamond Dolhafren sold two fat heifers to 172ppkg and 170ppkg. G Owen & Sons Tynewydd sold a steer to 171ppkg. CV & EM Lewis Garth Vaughan receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest ppkg animal sold on the day.

 

An entry of 1921 spring lambs, selling to an average of 273ppkg.

Standards (852) to 299ppkg from R L Owen Tanycoed and H M Powell White House. Others to 296ppkg from TM & MP Evans & Son Wern Farm and BE & BE Langford Lletymeibion. Average of 273ppkg.

Mediums (821) to 298ppkg from T C Evans Cae Gwyn. Others to 290ppkg from R L Owen Tanycoed. Average of 276ppkg.

Heavy’s (22) to 270ppkg from F W Humphreys & Sons Brook House. Others to 269ppkg from H G Ellis & Co Tyn y Wern. Average of 266ppkg. 

 

An entry of 3108 Prime Hoggets, selling to an average of 252ppkg.

Heavies (821) to 251ppkg from FG & G Mountford Middle Heldre. Others to 250ppkg from M PB Ashton & Son Belanddu. Average of 236ppkg.

Over Weights (312) to 236ppkg from CJ & LM Davies Lawns Farm. Others to 229ppkg from CJ & LM Davies Lawns Farm. Average of 209ppkg.

 

A seasonal entry of 1885 cull sheep forward. Ewes averaged £70.15 per head and rams £86.09 per head. H & G Davies Neuaddllwyd presented cull ewes to a top price of £134 per head. G Evans Tynycelyn presented ewes to £132 per head. D P Casewell Tanrhiw and R C Jones & Sons Rockley sold a cull rams to a top market price of £125 per head.

 

A reduced entry of compared to last week, 491 couples were offered for sale this week selling to an average of £148.05. As found ewes with lambs at foot sold to £132 from D E Pritchard Crossway Farm Llandewi. Four Year Old ewes with twin lambs at foot reached £156 from E M Matthews Ddolestyngwyn Newbridge on Wye. Two Year old strong Texel ewes with single lambs at foot made £174 from F Bailey Pensarn Swyddffynnon. There was an increased trade on Hoggs and lambs this week, Suffolk hoggs with single lambs at foot reached £194 from E W Howells & Son Oakwood Llanfyllin. The overall prize for the prize sale of couples was awarded to F Bailey Pensarn Swydd Ffynnon for 4 superior hoggs with single lambs at foot that reached £200 a Couple. Sale of couples will commence at 10.30am next week.

 

A catalogue sale of Dairy Cows and Heifers sold to £1810, £1800 and £1600 for 1^st calvers from DA & O Williams Penylan. R R Corfield & Co Bronynant sold a 1^st calver to £1300. P Williams & Sons Rhiwsaeth sold two cows to £1290 and £880.

 

A catalogue sale of 42 cows and calves sold to a top price of £2400 for a Limousin 1^st calver with a Limousin Heifer calf at foot from BC & JW Evans Penrhos Trefeglwys. Mr Evans also sold three Limousin 1^stcalver all with bull calves at foot to £2220, £2100 and £1920. D P Evans Moel y Garth sold two Limousinx 1^st calvers with bull calves at foot to £1770 and £1620, two Limousin 1^st calvers with limousin heifer calves at foot to £1520 and £1300, and a Hereford 1^st calver with a Limousin bull calf at foot to £1420. RE & CJ Davies Boycott Hall three Belgian Blue 1^st calvers to with a Limousin heifer calves at foot to £1820 and £1740 and one with a bull calf to £1570. Mr Davies also sold three Limousin 1^st calvers all with Limousin heifer calves at foot to £1780, £1650 and £1510. Price and Price Cwmearl sold six Limousin 1^st Calvers all with Limousin calves at foot to £1560, £1280, £1220, £1200 £1120 and £1080.
