10/02/2020 @ 08:05

A gust of wind has been recorded at 86mph at Lake Vyrnwy over the past 24 hours as Storm Ciara battered Montgomeryshire.

The Llanfair Caereinion Road and Airport Road were closed last night, but it has been reported that the bridge at Llandrinio is open this morning along with the main road to Llanymynech which had become almost impassable late last night. It has also been reported by readers that the Llanfair Road is now open this morning despite the ‘closed’ signs still in place.

There will be disruption on the rail today with the Cambrian Line still closed during the morning rush hour with parts of the line under water. Shortly after 9am, Newtown Station announced that the line was back open between Machynlleth and Shrewsbury.

The strongest gust in Wales of 93mph was recorded in Aberdaron, north-west Wales.

The storm is expected to ease over the coming hours, allowing the big clear-up to begin.
