Scam warning from reader

12/02/2020 @ 02:39

A MyWelshpool reader is warning fellow residents to be wary of a scam that targeted her three times in 10 minutes this morning.

Jo Weller said that she was pestered by an automated message from what appears to be a genuine number, telling her that “your internet service will be going off in the next 24 hours...and to press one on your phone for further details...”.

“Do not press one!” she warned. It is a scam and there is a similar one where the message states your Amazon Prime account will be charged over a delivery and again saying ‘press one’ and so on.

“Loads of people have been scammed with these messages, so I wanted to make sure your readers are aware.”

The Welshpool area has been the target of a number of phone scams in recent months with the advice to put the phone down to any recorded messages, or to anyone cold calling that you are unsure of.
