Devastation!

18/02/2020 @ 11:59

One of the many householders left devastated by Storm Dennis over the past few days has appealed to our readers to help them avoid more problems as the storm season continues.

Paul Midwinter lives at Brandy Cottage, just off the Airport Road, and watched helplessly as his flood defences were breached by the rapidly rising waters of the River Severn on Sunday afternoon.

It resulted in several feet of water smashing through his idyllic home, but rather than look for sympathy, Paul is appealing for our readers’ to help his family prevent more flooding in future.

“I am unfortunately one of the many that has had their house devastated by the floods,” said Paul.

“The full force of the Severn and its tributaries breached our 5-foot banks on Sunday at around 4pm and from that point there was no stopping it.”

Paul is now appealing for anyone with high clay content soil to get in touch so that he can build his defences higher after describing this weekend as the worst he has seen and to “hopefully never have this happen again”.

“We have lived here as a family for 20 years and have never seen it that bad!

There’s not really anything anyone can do at the moment as we are just waiting on insurance to start the ball rolling and re-build this mess. It has been a very emotional time.”
