Popular skate park to close

Welshpool’s popular skate park is to close the Town Council has confirmed.

The skate park at the rear of the former Youth Club building is to be dismantled and closed down.

Councillors discussed a safety report from ROSPA at a full council meeting held electronically last week and unanimously decided to close the park.

The council’s services and property committee recommended closure after hearing a report from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents that the park was now in a dangerous condition and councillors voted unanimously to support closure.

Councillor David Senior said: “We have been told that it is unsafe so we have no option other than to close it down.”

Councillor Hazel Evans said that she knew of one serious injury that had happened at the park and Councillor Phil Pritchard said that unless the equipment was removed children would continue to play there.
