Welshpool has had 15% of total Powys Covid cases

Welshpool has recorded more positive Covid-19 cases per head of population than anywhere else in Powys since the first local case was reported on March 11, but it is currently relatively free of the virus according to new data.

The three known outbreaks in the town have contributed to 92 positive cases in Welshpool alone over the past seven months, placing the town on rung three of the 10-rung ladder used by Public Health Wales to monitor the situation nationwide (one being the most severe).

That figure represents almost 15% of the total cases recorded for the entire county of Powys to date - which stands at 677. By comparison, Newtown has had just 32 positive cases in total since March. 

But the good news is that 0-2 cases were reported during the last seven-day period monitored from October 12-18.

Over that same period, the ‘Four Crosses & Guilsfield’ area have recorded four new cases, while the area known as ‘Montgomery, Berriew & Trewern’ also reported 0-2 cases. There were five new positive cases reported for the ‘Llanfyllin & Llanwddyn’ area, and nine (of the 32 in total) in Newtown.

Welshpool’s three outbreaks to date have taken place at The Rhallt care home, the Leighton Arches travellers' site and more recently at the Sidoli factory.
