Save ‘our’ Charanjit!

A petition has been launched to convince courier firm, DPD, to keep popular driver Charanjit Singh on the Welshpool round.

Mr Singh has become the area’s favourite adopted son, bringing his overwhelmingly warm personality into Welshpool on a daily basis over the past three years, leading to a campaign last year to ensure he was recognised by his company (pictured, right).

But yesterday, MyWelshpool was inundated by readers saddened that he had been told that he would be switched to a new route.

The same thing happened last March but residents bombarded the company with emails, prompting them to reverse their decision and they hope that public support will win again.

The online petition, started by Emma Thomas last night, has already gained nearly 150 signatures, and states: “Charanjit has lifted the mood of the locals since he started delivering parcels to the area.

“He always has a smile and his friendly amicable nature is contagious. He is an asset to the local community and throughout this pandemic when so many of us were and are confined to our houses with no social interactions, Charanjit has been the warm smile and friendly greeting we have all needed to lift us up and keep us going.

“Taking away Charanjit would be taking a piece of our hearts away now. He is loved by all, local businesses and families combined. Taking him away from this area would be taking away our sunshine.”

We contacted DPD yesterday, but have not received a reply yet.
