An Eggs-tra special Easter

03/04/2021 @ 09:32

When Cathy Cooper floated the idea of delivering Easter Eggs to residents in the town’s care homes, she certainly did not expect the cracking community response.

Cathy (middle), who works at the Welshpool Church in Wales school and is the driving force behind Dementia Welshpool, made an appeal on Facebook just 10 days ago to ask friends and family for their support. But the response eggs-eded her wildest eggs-pectations (OK, no more!).

“I thought I’d get about 40 eggs!” said Cathy. “But in the end we delivered 213 eggs, biscuits and diabetic chocolate. I had lots of cash donations to buy eggs and also bought flowers for the homes. I'm totally overwhelmed with the upport I've received and the generosity of others.”

Cathy needed the support of friend, Kathy Dart, and her nine-year-old niece, Freya Williams, to deliver the goods which were warmly received across the town on Good Friday.

“Thanks to the tremendous support, we were able to deliver chocolate eggs to Cae Melyn, Welshpool Hospital and Dorothy Hughes House as well as The Hermitage, Llys Hafren and Rhallt Home.

“I also asked the children from Welshpool Church in Wales school, where I work, to make Easter cards for the residents as they used to visit the homes before Covid to have art and craft sessions with the residents. The smile on the residents’ faces used to be priceless when the children walked into the room.

“Thank you everyone for supporting me. It really has blown me away and shows that community spirit is alive and well in Welshpool.”
