Welshpool Mayor quits

13/04/2021 @ 10:41

Welshpool Mayor, Councillor David Senior, has quit the position and is also believed to have stood down as a councillor, leaving four vacancies on the town council.

Cllr Senior, who represents the Gungrog Ward, only took up the post in October, voted in ahead of Cllr Steve Kaye, but the town council is remaining tight lipped, stating only that it was for “personal reasons”, and declining the opportunity to issue a full statement.

MyWelshpool has contacted Cllr Senior for comment, but a source close to the town council tells us that Deputy Mayor, Cllr Alison Davies, will be standing in until the Annual Meeting in May.

It’s been a difficult few months for the town council with the resignation of councillors and only last month, it was decided to try and co-opt new councillors to fill the vacancies after a lack of interest was shown in holding an election.
