Council’s ‘no comment’ to former mayor’s claims

In what could quite easily be fit for an exchange in an interview suite from the BBC police drama Line of Duty, Welshpool Town Council has responded with a “no comment” to explosive claims made by a former mayor.

David Senior felt he had “no choice” but to resign last month after saying some fellow councillors were “more concerned with controlling every decision made by the council than they were about actually achieving anything positive for the town”.

He has confirmed that he will share his concerns with the Public Services Ombudsman after alleging that “there is a continuing probability of bullying behaviour towards councillors and employees”.

His full statement is here.

We dropped the town council a line to ask for a response but Councillor Alison Davies, Deputy Mayor, said in an official statement: “We said before we have no comment to make. We are all bound by our Code of Conduct and we have nothing to add to the statement made by David Senior.”
