Following last weekend’s roaring success of the illuminated tractor run through Welshpool and the surrounding villages, a more traditional and gently paced procession will take place this Saturday night.
The Christmas Journey will be re-enacted through Welshpool, following two successful previous journeys held pre-pandemic, attracting a large crowd to the town centre.
The mother and baby this year are Larna Andrew, a physiotherapist at Welshpool Hospital and her baby Noah and they will lead the procession, complete with donkeys, through the town.
“I organise this with the full support, and under the banner of, Welshpool Churches Together, and during the journey we visit the Roman Catholic Church, the Welsh Chapel, Welshpool Baptist Church (in Chelsea Lane), the Methodist Church, the United Reform Church in New Street, and we end with a living nativity and carols in St. Mary's Church,” said Keith Fantham, from Welshpool Baptist Church.
The procession will start from 4pm at the Roman Catholic Church opposite the cemetery at the top of town, and make its way though the town centre to reach St Mary’s by about 5.30pm following the several stops along the way.
There will be free glow sticks for the children as well as refreshments.
