Is this Welshpool’s worst road?

A Welshpool man is calling on Montgomeryshire MP and Welshpool Town Council to urgently look into the state of a Welshpool access road that leads to the town’s recreation facilities.

John Evans has written to Craig Williams MP and has also requested that the town council raises the issue at its next meeting.

There appears to be some confusion over who actually owns the road with Powis Estates, the county council and town council all mentioned, but Mr Evans wants the matter clarified so that an action plan of work can be implemented.

“The approach road to the Recreation Grounds is in a dreadful state,” said Mr Evans. “It is such a shame as it is the approach to the town’s much used facilities.”

The road from canal bridge takes users to the football and rugby car parks as well as to the play park and bowling club.

It will also be used for the much-publicised new playing field that is in the process of being secured by a community group, working with Welshpool Town Football Club.

The sad state of the access road was raised this week at a meeting of the new Welshpool Sports Forum, made up of representatives from the town’s sports clubs, and a letter has been sent to the town council that includes a request for clarification over its ownership and responsibility.
