FLOODS: It's getting worse out there

 The weather continues to get worse and the entire Welshpool area is under threat from flooding tonight.

Powys County Council is asking people not to travel unless essential with staff facing another night responding to situations all across the county.

And the bad news is as Storm Eunice leaves Storm Franklin is about to hit the area.

The current situation includes:

  • A483 Newtown to Llandrindod flooded at the turning for Llanbister B4356. 7pm
  • Red Lane at Powis Castle flooded and not passable in a standard car. 9pm
  • A470 blocked between Glantwymyn and Commins Coch due to a fallen tree. 8.30pm
  • A483 - Newtown to Welshpool - shut. 8.50pm
  • A470 - Llandinam closed at 7.15pm. People are being evacuated by boat. 8.40pm - "Don’t attempt to come through please. The road is flooded at the top Llani end - the fire brigade taped the road off just after the first farm/ houses - and it’s flooded further down too. Some houses flooded. A lorry was stuck earlier and an ambulance coming to evacuate someone poorly."
  • A483 - Newtown and Caersws Maes Mawr straight, shut at 8.50pm. (Previously: 2 reallly bad floods and water rising fast. 8pm).
  • Back road from Caersws - Aberhafesp - Newtown Few puddles and a lot of surface water and debris but easily passable in any car. - 8.50pm
  • Caersws to Trefeglwys - Caersws 9pm - no longer flooded. At 8.40pm - it is snowing Trefeglwys way(!)
  • Back road between Llandinam > Oakley Park > Llanidloes bad. 8.45pm.
  • Moat Lane Caersws severely flooded, take extreme care. 8.50pm.
  • Llanymynech - 8pm - flooded. Not passable in a standard car.
  • A483 - Welshpool to Newtown by Coed y Dinas roundabout not passable. Coach broke down. 7.10pm.
  • Turning for Oakley Park via the A470 Dolwen (near Llanidloes), there is a vehicle stuck in the flood water, you cannot get through. 7.30pm.
  • A470 at 7pm Caersws crossing the barriers are now open (after being stuck earlier). However, you won't get past Llandinam.
  • Caersws to Trefeglwys is flooded
  • A470 Dolwen - water on the road
  • A470 Llangurig to Rhayader - flooded and a car stuck (two fire engines have gone out). The road is now closed at 3.30pm. 8.50pm - shut.
  • Pant y dwr to Rhayader - "very bad"
  • A458 flooded at Banwy Fuels - Llanfair to Welshpool
  • A458 Cyfronydd - flooded
  • A458 water is rising at Llangadfan
  • Meifod - 7pm. Completely impassable now and police are out stopping people travelling beyond the village.
  • Manafon road, at Berriew just after the school turning is flooded
  • Caerhowel - flooded
  • Montgomery to Bluebell the straight was starting to flood
  • Llanfechain flooded near Llanfyllin
  • A483 Abermule canal - lots of water on the road and partially blocked
  • A482 Garthmyl - flooded
  • Four Crosses - 9.30pm flooded from Four Crosses to Llanymynech not passable and police turning people round.
  • Llansantffraid the river at the bridge - has burst its banks and on the road. Flooded at Jugs.
  • Forden to Montgomery - water on the road, especially at Hendomen turn. It is deeper than it look. Unable to see white line in deepest part, not passable in a low car.
  • Forden at 4.40pm - water is deep at Lower Leighton Farm, especially at Birds Corner, impassble for standard cars shortly.
  • Manthrig Lane, Caersws - flooded
  • Berriew to Castle Caereinion - road blocked as a tree and cables are down. Still blocked at 6.30pm.
  • A458 - Telford back to Welshpool 16:45 roads are extremely wet. Rowton Castle there is quite a bit of surface water and then again on The Severn Sisters there are several places where the surface water is deeper than other places.
  • A458 Buttington - quite a bit of water at Ham and Eggs and it’s flowing towards Welshpool which then builds up again just before Green Dragon Pub.
  • Green Lane between Abermule and Llandyssil no longer passable
  • Churchstoke to Chirbury water across half the road with debris
  • Chirbury to Montgomery water across the road, including on corners.
  • Chirbury to Shrewsbury - floods in 6 or 7 places which won't be passable for much longer.
  • Clun way - not passable in a car
  • Dolfor to Knighton - flooded
  • Bala to Dolgellau not passable. Trawsfynydd way currently okay.
  • Llanymynech to Four Crosses - water starting to breach Argae Bank at 5.30pm
  • Coed Lane, Churchstoke - flooded, "not worth the risk going through it" at 6pm
  • Meifod to Llanfair Caereinion shut - 5.20pm
  • Newtown to Chirbury to Brockton - water rising fast, very deep at the moment. 6.30pm.
  • B5069 at Oswestry itself - possibly flooded
  • A44 Llangurig to Aberystwyth - snow at Eisteddfa Gurig due overnight.
  • Gritters out from 1am, we are due snow.
