A much needed support resource for those living with, or caring for someone with Dementia is opening in Welshpool.

Independent charity, Dementia Matters in Powys, has worked with Dementia Friendly Welshpool to announce that the COWSHACC will host a Dementia Centre and a lunch is being held tomorrow (Wednesday) to enable those interested to find out more information.

“Dementia Matters in Powys are opening the fifth Dementia Meeting Centre in the county on Wednesday at The COWSHACC,” said Deborah Gerrard, Chief Officer - Dementia Matters in Powys.

“We are inviting interested stakeholders to join us at 1.15pm to visit the Meeting Centre, talk to members (those living with Dementia) and their carers and to have lunch.”

Dementia Matters in Powys is an independent charity, who rely on grants, membership and donations to continue to deliver their services. As well as the meeting centres, they offer 1:1 support, telephone buddies, befrienders, Digital connections support with equipment, activities, outings, peer support, provide information, training and support for those living with Dementia and their carers.

Worryingly, the charity revealed that they are still without funding for 2022/23 but are trying to negotiate with Powys County Council and Powys Teaching Health Board.

“Support from Dementia Friendly Welshpool has helped us to open in Welshpool, similar to Dementia Friendly Newtown,” said Deborah.
