Businesses fuming over unannounced Welshpool works

10/05/2022 @ 10:22

Businesses are up-in-arms after workers turned up “out-of-the-blue” this week to start work on Church Street to lay a communications cable.

Open Reach explain on their web site that they need to shut a lane by the traffic lights in order to lay 4 metres, and that it could take all week to finish.

The lane is still open this morning, but businesses are not happy, saying it will cause disruption at a busy time when they are getting back on their feet following the long Covid disruption.

“At least some notice would have been nice,” one business owner told us, asking not to be named. “They turned up out-of-the-blue on Monday and blocked the lane with a vehicle, but no work has started so it was back open again.

“They have also left their signage and cones on the pavement ready to start. If they do come along and block off a lane, combined with most of Church Street car park being closed (for work on the new travel hub), all businesses might as well go home!

"The lack of communication from a communications company is shocking."

MyWelshpool has asked Open Reach for a comment.
