Fury after Borfa Green smash

16/05/2022 @ 11:06

Police tape marks the scene this morning of what appears to be the aftermath of a car smashing into the railings on Borfa Green.

Just two days after residents complained to MyWelshpool about speeding cars on Brook Street, this suspected smash has been met by another wave of anger from residents with one claiming that she heard a ‘racer’ roaring up the road.

“I said to my husband about the way the cars were driving up so fast all day and then we heard the crash!” she posted on Facebook. “It's only a matter of time until someone is seriously injured or killed as it is always used as a race track.”

There are unconfirmed reports that the driver responsible was spotted fleeing the scene unhurt.

We have contacted the police to find out what happened, but county councillor, Graham Breeze, has said that the highways team are on the scene and will “reopen the pavement area as quickly as possible”.

“I have received several calls this morning about the speed of traffic on this stretch and claims of vehicles continually circling the town at night. Will be discussing the complaints with the local police,” said Cllr Breeze.

On Saturday, we reported that since the road changes came into place, residents claim that Brook Street has turned into a ‘motorway’ at times, prompting safety concerns for pedestrians.
