Water issues could continue until year-end

Households in Welshpool and Guilsfield worried about the quality of their water and low pressure have been told that it could continue to the end of the year.

Earlier this month we revealed that households in Guilsfield were complaining of poor water quality with high mineral content, while in Welshpool water pressure has resulted in a trickle at times.

Hafren Dyfrdwy confessed that it was down to a change in supply, with a reservoir undergoing maintenance, and this week they have updated customers with a letter confirming the problems are set to continue in the short term.

Bradley Capener, Water Network Manager for Powys said: “There’s still some work to do at the reservoir so I don’t have a date as yet, but I do expect it to be done and your water supply returned back to normal before the end of the year.”

He explained that following the complaints, an additional overland supply had come online to assist as the work was taking “longer than we would have originally hoped”.

With regards to the quality of the water, Mr Bradley assured customers that the current supply is of “high quality and perfectly safe to drink”.

Residents have been complaining of a drop in water quality since January, saying it has damaged kettles and irritated skin conditions. However, none of this has been professionally connected to the change in supply, which happened at around the same time.
