One of Welshpool’s biggest social events appears to be secure, despite its organising charity fearing for its own future due to a lack of volunteers.

Following a brilliantly run event, that saw record crowds enjoy a weekend of music on the edge of town, a plea went out for more help and an injection of fresh blood to help run the Heulwen Trust which is powered year-round by the money raised from the festival.

The Heulwen Trust provides trips along the Montgomery Canal for various charities and groups, but issued an “urgent appeal” for more support.

Organisers of the event also added that they are “on our knees begging for help from folks to ensure this event can continue”.

However, last night they announced that the Texas Fiddler, John Permenter and his band will headline 2023 which will be held over the weekend of July 15, with gates to be opened for campers from July 13.

Fans will also be given the opportunity to say who they want to see perform in Welshpool next summer through the event Facebook page.

“We will announce all the acts taking part one by one as they are confirmed,” said a spokesperson. “Here is your chance to influence who we invite to play. Let’s see who you want to see on our stages and why. Your show - your choice.”
