They know how to party in Monty!

The crowds came out in force in Montgomery to bring in the New Year.

Town Crier, Sue Blower, was master of ceremonies, ensuring the hour of midnight was not missed and even keeping the rain at bay whilst the assembled crowd counted down the midnight strokes of the Town Hall clock, linked arms for Auld Lang Syne and wished each other a happy New Year.

Montgomery Mayor, Jill Kibble, said: “Such a great turnout to welcome in 2023. This must have been one of the largest New Year gatherings of recent years and truly expressed the community spirit of this lovely town. 2023 may not prove the easiest of years economically but, as with the pandemic and other crises, this is the spirit that will bring us all through.”

Visitor, Lisa Cagnacci, Producer at the Royal and Derngate Theatre in Northampton, found it a splendid occasion: “It was great to see local residents, visitors and town dignitaries alike filling the expanse of Broad Street from the Town Hall to Ivy House in a rousing show of shared community and hope for the coming year.”
