Firefighters battled Berriew blaze

Firefighters tackled an overnight blaze close to Berriew that required the attendance of crews from Machynlleth, Montgomery, Welshpool, Llanfair Caereinion and Llandrindod Wells.

The call was made at 7.23pm on Tuesday, with firefighters departing the scene five hours later.

An agricultural building measuring 20m x 20m was ablaze, with the building’s roof collapsing so crews used a ground monitor, as well as three hose reel jets, two main jets and main branches were used. Crews dampened down using two hose reel jets.

“The fire was extinguished and the occupier was advised it may continue to smoulder and that the building is unsafe,” a spokesperson for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said. “No casualties have been reported.”
