Welshpool town centre will turn into a ‘Coronation street’ party full of popular music and entertainment when His Majesty King Charles III’s big day will be celebrated in style on May 6.

Top-notch tribute acts, a guest from X-Factor who Simon Cowell described as a “vocal powerhouse” and the resident band from Liverpool’s famous Cavern Club will all be entertaining the crowds alongside face painters, balloon modellers, craft stalls, classic vehicles, costumed characters and charity stalls.

Organised by the Welshpool 1940s Weekend committee, who also pulled together the successful Street Party for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee last year, said that the event promises to be “an even bigger and better event”, with “something included for most members of the family”.

The entertainment is expected to start from 2pm and will run through to 10pm in Broad Street and High Street, and is totally free, but donations will be welcome.

Any craft workers or charities/voluntary organisations wanting to have a stall should call 07782166342 or alan60s@live.com.

So, what’s confirmed so far?

Among those confirmed to take part are Liza Baker, who has performed on The Voice and X Factor, when judge, Mr Cowell, said she was a vocal powerhouse and a Ferrari inside a mini as she is only 4ft 10 inches tall.

Also taking part will be 60s group and resident band at Liverpool’s Cavern Club, The Shakers.

Tribute acts to the likes of Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Adele, Dolly Parton, Abba and UB40 are all scheduled to perform through the afternoon and evening.

This year, the 1940s Weekend will take place from September 29 to October 1.
