Books and bikes, Welshpool library launches new rental scheme

Welshpool and Llanfyllin libraries have launched a new initiative that is aimed at getting our next generation on the move.

The service has announced that balance bikes, like the one pictured, are now available to borrow from both libraries through a joint initiative between between Powys County Council’s Library Service and Sports Development Team (Sport Powys).

The bikes can be borrowed for free and include a helmet, and they are suitable for children from two-six years old. They can be borrowed for four weeks at a time.

The initiative is available thanks to funding from the Welsh Government, through Sport Wales.

Cllr David Selby, Cabinet Member for a More Prosperous Powys, said: “This is a great initiative, helping to support families to improve their children’s skills and confidence. Learning to ride a bike provides children with their first taste of mobile independence, as well as being a great family activity.

“It’s also a great excuse to become a member of the library service and enjoy all the extra perks it has to offer, for free.”

Anyone who lives, works or is studying in Powys can join the library for free. Either visit https://www.storipowys.org.uk/join or drop into your local library.
