Welshpool’s Remembrance Sunday Parade could be a lot quieter than usual with a desperate search to find a marching band so far drawing a blank.
Councillors at the latest Welshpool Town Council full meeting were told that despite an exhaustive search, it was unlikely that band-played music will accompany the veterans and officials in their Welshpool parade on November 12.
Town Clerk Anne Wilson even explained that they had thought that a band from RAF Cosford was available, but sadly they had received a call last week to say the personnel were being shipped to Cyprus.
Cllr Billy Spencer, himself a talented performer, said he will "work my contacts" to try and secure something, but Ms Wilson said that “every available avenue” had been tried.
Town Mayor, Cllr Nick Howells, added that “as a last resort” they should investigate using a sound system playing marching music at the front of the procession.
Welshpool will fall silent at 11am on Saturday, November 11, when councillors are invited to congregate for the annual minute’s silence at the front of the Town Hall. The following day will see the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service.
