Pinewood to re-open ‘next summer’

14/10/2023 @ 11:44

After years of trickling through the Powys planning process, work to rejuvenate the Pinewood in the town centre is underway.

Workers have been on site this week, but it will be a massive project to bring the building back to life after it was purchased by Welshpool businessman Mike Harris.

His wife Rhian is spearheading the project and said it could realistically take eight-10 months to complete with six “high-spec apartments” encompassed in the ambitious development.

“The project consists of six apartments, including two two-storey apartments, which are all designed to a high spec,” Rhian told us.

“There will also be a total refurb of The Pinewood. We are very excited to finally start this project and we can’t wait to bring the past glories of the Pinewood back.”

The development’s budget has not been revealed but Rhian explained: “In all honesty, I think it will take eight-10 months. It’s going to be to be totally gutted throughout.”

The pair also added The Breidden in Middletown to their portfolio this summer with work already underway to “restore the concept of the village pub and reconnect it to the local community”.

That business is expected to be open a lot sooner with a search already underway for “an ambitious proprietor for the newly acquired and refurbished Breidden Pub in Middletown”.

“The Breidden has been a part of the Middletown local community for many years,” Rhain added. “It is having an extensive refurbishment to a high-standard bar and kitchen to deliver good wholesome food and drink to its clientele.”
