Fed-up villagers call public meeting over recycling

With reports that some villagers are only having their bins collected every three weeks, fed up Guilsfield residents have called a public meeting to vent their frustrations.

Powys County Council has struggled for a couple of years to stay on top of the weekly collections in North Powys with staff shortages and vehicle breakdowns regularly blamed as the main reasons.

But Guilsfield has had enough, and the head of the village council, Cllr Ian Harrison, said it was was particularly bad in rural areas on the outskirts of the village.

“Guilsfield residents who live outside the village, across the length and breadth of our rural ward, are fed up with the unreliable, inconsistent recycling service provided by Powys County Council,” said Cllr Harrison, who is also a county councillor.

“Excuses of staff shortages, which don’t seem to apply in South Powys, have become a well-worn record and not just in Guilsfield. Other wards in North Powys are suffering from the same service issues. We need to agree how we get this continual service failure remedied.”

The meeting will take place in The Old School, on Friday, November 10, from 7.30pm.
