Protesters ramp up campaign against pylons

10/11/2023 @ 10:02

The campaign to block an energy giant’s plans to construct a pylon corridor through North Montgomeryshire is being stepped up with a series of public drop-in sessions.

Montgomeryshire Against Pylons (MAP) has reunited after 10 years for another fight against the plans that will connect a proposed giant wind farm at Cefn Coch with the National Grid near Oswestry.

Bute Energy says the windfarm will power 144,000 homes with green energy, but campaigners label the plans as an eye sore and will step up the opposition in the coming months as the proposal moves through the planning system.

Due to the size of the project being of ‘national importance’ a final decision will be taken by The Welsh Government, probably in the next 18 months.

“We have booked Llanerfyl Hall on Wednesday, November 15, from 6pm-9pm, for the first of a series of informal drop-in sessions in locations along the proposed pylon route,” said a spokesperson.

“We will have maps available to look at and will attempt to answer any questions people put to us about the scheme. We hope people will come and see us.”
