Cars blocking bin collections in Welshpool

10/11/2023 @ 10:23

Residents in one Welshpool neighbourhood have been fuming about a couple of missed bin collections recently, but the county council said that cars are preventing their teams from getting access.

Readers report to us that two collections have been missed in the past month at Wellington Crescent, close to The Grapes, and asking “what do we pay our council tax for?”.

But this morning, Powys County Council explained the situation, and said they would work with residents to find a solution.

“Our crews have sometimes not been able to collect waste and recycling from Wellington Crescent due to parked cars restricting access making it impossible for the recycling vehicles to get through,” a spokesperson said.

“We understand that these vehicles could belong to visitors to the areas rather than residents.

“However, our Waste Awareness and Enforcement team are planning on engaging with the locals about the importance on maintaining access, not only for the waste and recycling vehicles, but also for other vehicles and the emergency services.”

Missed bin collections have become a hot topic, with the service struggling with broken down vehicles and staff shortages.

Tonight (Friday) there will be a public meeting in the Old School in Guilsfield to discuss the problems faced there. The meeting starts at 7.30pm.
