MP welcomes “troubled” S4C’s BBC deal

27/10/2011 @ 04:48

Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies has warmly welcomed what he calls a “fantastic deal” which has secured the future of S4C.

Mr Davies has been one of several MPs and Ministers trying to reach a satisfactory solution to what has been a matter of great controversy and concern for many Welsh people over the past year.

But an agreement was revealed earlier this week, and Mr Davies reacted by saying: “The new S4C / BBC agreement is fantastic for the future of Welsh Language television, offering certainty of funding up to 2017, a S4C Authority with only the National Trustee for Wales (currently the great Elan Clos Stephens) representing the BBC, and a Management Board with no BBC representation whatsoever.

“It’s time to move on from S4C's troubled past, which on occasions has descended into farce. S4C now has the potential, the funding and a management structure which creates a great platform for success in the future.”
