Dead fish suffocated

01/11/2011 @ 03:20

The Environment Agency believes the 50 trout that died in the Black Pools suffocated due to a lack of oxygen caused by decomposing plants.

The agency launched an investigation after the fish were discovered, and its officers believe decomposing plants could have reduced oxygen levels in the water. They have not found an external source of pollution.

The agency pumped oxygen into the water to help the remaining fishand a spokesperson said: “We have advised the lake owner on steps he could take to manage the situation.”

Initial reports indicated that the pollution had turned the water, which feeds the Lledan Brook, milky in colour.
