A 48-year-old Llanfechain man has admitted 18 charges of theft following a lengthy police investigation into the disappearance of ladies underwear from washing lines in Welshpool.

Geoffrey Robert Wilde appeared before Brecon Magistrates today when he admitted the charges. He is due to appear before court again on 6 December.

Wilde was arrested following a string of thefts from washing lines over recent months. Following the arrest, Detective Inspector Diane Davies said: “We are aware of the high level of concern that these offences have caused to Welshpool and particularly those people directly affected. There has been an operation running over some time with the focus on identifying and bringing the offender to Justice.

“I would personally like to thank the member of public who gave out the alert that triggered the arrest; officers were nearby and were in fact targeting that specific area. I would encourage members of the public who see suspicious activity to please report it straight away.”
