History of Welshpool... for a quid!

16/04/2012 @ 04:20

The results of a local man’s dedication in compiling important records on Welshpool's history are available for as little as a quid!

Roger Brown spent endless hours working through papers and documents relating to Welshpool in order to compile the 10-volume Sayce Papers which are available to buy from the Tourist Information Centre for £1 per volume!

The papers provide an in-depth historical look at various parts of the town’s history from schools and town planning to St Mary’s, pubs and the town’s military presence.

There is even a section dedicated to Thomas Parry, the Welshpool entrepreneur who moved to India and set up a business which is now recognised as one of the biggest in the sub continent. This was previously revealed by mywelshpool last year.

“These papers were compiled from 1995 to 2004, from archive material at the National Library, Christ Church, Oxford, Church records, and other sources,” explained Roger.

The Sayce Papers were first published in 1995 but are available once again at a third of their original £3 price. Volumes one-three are now out of print, but the remaining volumes, four-10, are available again.
