Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (24)

An entry of 24 over thirty month old cattle sold to average 118ppkg for the older cows and 125ppkg for the younger heifers. Top price of the day was £1234.44 for a Charolais cow weighing 972kg from TH & G Davies & Son Celyn Mawr. Mrs J D Jones Waen sold two cows to £936.18 and £928.86. TH & G Davies & Son Celyn Mawr receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day. FAT CATTLE (3)

Three Fat cattle sold today to average 206ppkg for the steers and 184ppkg for the heifers. Top price was 206ppkg for two limousin steers from Evans Brothers Tynewydd. Evans Brothers also receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest price per kilo animal sold on the day.

PRIME LAMBS (5689)

An entry of 5689 Prime lambs, selling to an overall average of 144.7ppkg.

Super Lights (17.5kg to 25.4kg) (42) to 121ppkg from M & H Evans Tycerrig. Average of 115ppkg.

Lights (25.5kg to 32kg) (271) to 152ppkg from W R B Jones Brynawelon . Others to 135ppkg from G Jones Dolcoion. Average of 131ppkg.

Standards (32.1kg to 39kg) (1446) to 178ppkg from Geddes & Co 4 Camlad Cottages. Others to 165ppkg from G L Jones Cefn Rhosan. Average of 139ppkg.

Mediums (39.5kg to 45.5kg) (2886) to 180ppkg from W E G Evans Llwynycrwth. Others to 170ppkg from J F Morgan & Son Plas. Average of 147ppkg. 

Heavies (45.1kg to 52kg) (840) to 162ppkg from DW & LE Morgan Lower House. Others to 155ppkg from E L Andrew Trewern Cottage. Average of 142ppkg. 

Over Weights (Over 52kg) (136) to 145ppkg from M P B Ashton & Son Belanddu & E L Evans & Co Green Farm. Average of 137ppkg.

CULL EWE (1914)

An entry of 1914 cull sheep on offer for sale today, sold to average £40.69 for the ewes and £59.12 for the rams. Top price of the day for the ewes was £130 per head from C E Pryce Yr Helyg. Top price for the cull rams was £97 per head from DG Jones Cefnhirfawr. Weekly sale of cull sheep to immediately follow the sale of fat lambs at approximately 12noon.  

STORE LAMBS & STORE EWES

A small entry of lambs were harder sold on a very wet morning. Top price was £45.50 from JE & CVM Jones Pantydail. Next week special entry of 40 Suffolk and Charollais cross In Lamb ewes and 15 full mouth texel ewes in lamb to texel ram and due February onwards. On the 14th January 20 Purebred Texel Ewes and more entries invited. 

DAIRY COWS

A seasonal entry of 7 dairy cattle met with a fair trade for the cattle forward. Leading the way was an Autumn Ridge Matson daughter from R R Corfield & Co selling for £1810. At £1770 was a Ladys – Manor Augusta heifer from the same home, also from Rob Corfield was a Willingham Exclusive daughter giving 25 litres which made £1640. Two Ashew Reece sired heifers from N Samuel Lower Ystrad sold to a top of £1580. A breakdown of the prices achieved where as follows: £1800 + lot, £1600 - £1800 2 lots, £1400 - £1600 1 lot, £1200 - £1400 2 lots, Less than £1200 1 lot.
